Optometrist

20 hours

Cycle
20 hours per year (annual cycle)
Renewal
30 November

Optometrists must complete at least 20 hours of CPD each registration year, with additional obligations possible for scheduled medicines endorsements and CPR training.

Registration year: 1 December to 30 November; AHPRA registration renewal is 30 November.

Optometrists complete at least 20 hours of CPD each registration year under the current standard.

Category and topic requirements

  • Scope-relevant CPD: The standard does not set a fixed CPDKeep category split for non-endorsed optometrists; CPD must improve patient outcomes and be relevant to practice.

Standalone requirements

  • CPR training: Maintain CPR training in line with Optometry Board CPD guidelines.

Caveats

  • Optometrists with a scheduled medicines endorsement must check the additional endorsement-related CPD requirement.
  • The retired pre-December 2020 points-based biennial model is not used for new CPDKeep defaults.

Optometry requirement data configures CPDKeep's default non-endorsed annual target. Endorsed optometrists should confirm additional CPD and CPR obligations against current Optometry Board guidance.
