Medical practitioners must complete 50 hours of CPD each calendar year, including educational activities, reviewing performance, measuring outcomes, core content, a professional development plan, and CPD home registration unless exempt.

Calendar year: 1 January to 31 December; AHPRA registration renewal is 30 September.

Medical practitioners complete 50 hours of CPD each calendar year, write a professional development plan, and log CPD with an AMC-accredited CPD home unless exempt.

Category and topic requirements

  • Educational activities (minimum 12.5 hours): At least 12.5 hours must be educational activities.
  • Reviewing performance (minimum 5 hours): At least 5 hours must be reviewing performance.
  • Measuring outcomes (minimum 5 hours): At least 5 hours must be measuring outcomes.
  • Reviewing performance plus measuring outcomes (minimum 25 hours): At least 25 hours must be completed across reviewing performance and measuring outcomes combined, including at least 5 hours in each.
  • Core content: Complete activities covering culturally safe practice, addressing health inequities, and professionalism and ethical practice.

Standalone requirements

  • CPD Home registration: Maintain registration with an AMC-accredited CPD home unless an exemption applies.
  • Professional development plan: Prepare and maintain a professional development plan each year.

Caveats

  • CPDKeep is a personal record and does not replace the practitioner's accredited CPD home program, reporting, or declaration obligations.
  • Specialist college or CPD home programs may impose additional activity, reflection, or reporting requirements.
  • Exemptions and pro-rata arrangements should be checked against the Medical Board and CPD home guidance.
